Kite Cruising Season 2: The Second Wave

Here we are again. On the boat at Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz. Our plan this season is to sail north to Mazatlán for the total solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024, then continue north into the Baja / Gulf of California. Last year, we sailed south as far as Manzanillo, Colima.  As usual, the first part of any sailing trip involves the dirty work: getting the boat ready to sail!

Planes, trains, ferries and automobiles! We took the bus, ferry and lightrail to Sea Tac airport from Port Townsend. Nice views of the Seattle waterfront from the ferry.
Flying over the Gulf of California
Replacing the heat exchanger in our Yanmar diesel engine is painstaking. Lots of tedious polishing and cleaning.
This is our old heat exchanger. No Bueno. It was nearly impossible to find a replacement. Luckily we found a used one on Ebay shipped from Haines, Alaska.
Today we put up the main sail. Jeremyah installed a new mast track and it all seems to be working well.
We installed a new VHF radio! Much needed and this one has an AIS screen.
The famous La Cruz Sunday Market. One of the best markets in Mexico. We scored some unique goodies including home made pasta, cheese,  chimichurri, curry hummus and passion fruit pulp.
Took some time to relax and enjoyed a blueberry margarita. Basically a smoothie with tequila in it. Brilliant.

Hey Amanda and Jeremyah, great updates! THANKS! I will be following! Every time you see a dolphin, know that I wish I was on a sister ship! Fair winds and following seas! 🙂
