The journey to Mazatlán from La Cruz took about 50 hours. We stayed in Chacala for 4 days while we waited for a weather window to continue north. The sunsets there were cloudless so we were able to see the green flash every day! There wasn’t much wind, so we motored quite a bit and spent several hours in dense fog. The engine is leaking a decent amount of oil into the bilge (not into the ocean) so we will be addressing the issue in Mazatlán.
North of San Blas, we tacked southwest to line ourselves up in a direct line to Mazatlán. It was at Piedra Blanca that we saw two whale sharks at the surface! We saw a few humpback whales breaching along the way, but most of them have left the area to migrate north. We also enjoyed the bright bioluminescence in the boat’s wake on our night watches.
