The farther north we sail, the better it gets! The pesky coromuel night- time winds began to fade away, and we stopped seeing as many charter superyachts. We left Puerto los Gatos early in the morning just in time for a strong north wind to pick up. The sea state became very rough, so we sheltered in San Telmo Bay for a couple of hours, and when the wind died down we headed to the beautiful, protected waters of Bahía Agua Verde. There were two restaurants there and a small tienda that sold fresh vegetables there. We were thrilled to be able to stock up on fresh food and other items. We were starting to run out!
We stayed in Agua Verde for three days and stopped at the San Cosme hot springs for a quick soak on the way to Puerto Escondido.
Agua Verde is a popular stop for cruisers. There are several places to anchor in the large bay. The snorkeling and hiking were excellent, along with the turquoise waters and white sand beaches. The diversity of cactus species with the Sea in the background is a sight that never gets old. There was great hiking all around the area. It’s always a treat to stretch and move the legs after being on the boat for long periods of time. Sunsets at Agua VerdeThis is not a rock underwater. It is a ball of fish! Thousands of them. We anchored right over them, and they all seemed to enjoy the shade and protection of the boat. We always appreciate a break from cooking on the boat. This is a typical Mexican seafood dish served with rice, fresh salad and sliced tomatoes. The menu will offer different ways to cook the catch of the day. This is diablo style – fresh fish smothered in a spicy chili tomato sauce. We met a wonderful family on SV Dovka, and a British couple on SV Nimue, who are circumnavigating. We buddy boated with them for several days and anchored at the San Cosme hot springs on the way to Puerto Escondido. Hot springs with an ocean view cannot be beat!Jeremyah works several hours per week as a remote steel detailer. Basically replenishing the sailing kitty!
Thanks for the updates! It’s a beautiful tale! Are the temps getting warm yet? I knew I wanted to sail the Sea of Cortez, but now I want to sail it even more! Stay SAFE, and have FUN!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, it is getting hotter here… very quickly! We are in Bahia Conception this morning and it’s already 88 degrees F. There has been an ongoing heatwave on the mainland Mexico and now the Baja is a part of it. Hauling out in San Carlos is going to be HOT.
It’s such a joy to read your account of cruising the Sea of Cortez. We really appreciate your blogging about the new people, families, meals, sunsets, and new fish-ball shadows …hiking scenes; AH So much. (We are always trying to see if we can identify which sailboat is yours in the bahia photographs ;-] 🙂
